General ENT Questions

What is an ENT specialist?

An ENT (Otolaryngologist) is a doctor specializing in conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, head, and neck. We treat sinus infections, hearing loss, allergies, voice disorders, and more.

Do I need a referral to see an ENT?

Some insurance plans require a referral, specifically HMO plans. Check with your insurance provider, or call us to see if you can schedule directly.

What should I bring to my ENT appointment?

Bring your ID, insurance card, referral (if required), list of medications, and any relevant test results (hearing tests, imaging, etc.)

Ear-Related FAQs

  • Why do I have ringing in my ears (tinnitus)?

Tinnitus can be caused by hearing loss, loud noise exposure, ear infections, or other conditions. An ENT can help determine the cause and treatment options.

When should I see an ENT for ear infections?

If you or your child have frequent or chronic ear infections, hearing loss, or ear pain lasting more than a few days, an ENT can help.

    Do you offer hearing tests?

Yes! We provide comprehensive hearing evaluations and hearing aid consultations.

Why do my ears feel clogged all the time?

Common causes include wax buildup, allergies, sinus infections, fluid in the ear, or Eustachian tube dysfunction.

Can an ENT help with dizziness and balance issues?

Yes! We diagnose and treat vertigo, Meniere’s disease, and balance disorders related to the inner ear.

What can I do about frequent earwax buildup?

Never use cotton swabs! We offer safe earwax removal and ear cleaning services.

Nose & Sinus FAQs

Why do I keep getting sinus infections?

Recurrent sinus infections can be due to allergies, nasal polyps, a deviated septum, or chronic sinusitis. An ENT can evaluate and recommend treatment.

Can you help with snoring and sleep apnea?

Yes! If you or a loved one snores loudly or experiences pauses in breathing at night, we offer sleep apnea evaluations and treatments.

What are common allergy symptoms, and can you test for them?

Allergy symptoms include sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and sinus pressure. We offer allergy testing and treatment, including immunotherapy (allergy shots or drops).

How can I tell if I have a deviated septum?

Symptoms include chronic nasal congestion, snoring, frequent sinus infections, and difficulty breathing through one nostril. You may have a history of these symptoms after a significant fall or nasal trauma.

What is balloon sinuplasty, and how does it work?

A minimally invasive procedure that gently opens blocked sinus passages using a balloon as a tool, reducing sinus infections, pressure, and congestion—with quick recovery.

Can allergies cause chronic sinus infections?

Yes! Allergic inflammation can block nasal passages, leading to recurrent infections. Allergy testing & treatment can help.

Non-Surgical Options

  • Why is my voice hoarse?

Hoarseness can be due to overuse, smoking, vocal strain, acid reflux, infections, or vocal cord issues like vocal polyps or nodules. If hoarseness lasts longer than 2-3 weeks, see an ENT.

Can an ENT help with swallowing problems?

Yes! Difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) can result from acid reflux, neurological conditions, or throat disorders. We can evaluate and recommend treatment.

What is acid reflux (LPR), and how does it affect my throat?

Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is when stomach acid reaches the throat, causing hoarseness, sore throat, and a chronic cough. Treatment may include lifestyle changes and medication.

Can an ENT help with chronic cough?

Yes! A persistent cough may be due to postnasal drip, reflux (LPR), or throat irritation. If your cough is chronic (8 weeks or longer), consider an ENT evaluation.

Why do I have a lump-in-throat feeling (Globus Sensation)?

It could be acid reflux, muscle tension, or throat inflammation. An ENT can evaluate the cause. Evaluation can include a laryngoscopy - a camera procedure that allows the ENT to physically examine the larynx/voice box and throat.

Sleep & Breathing FAQs

Can you treat sleep apnea without a CPAP machine?

Yes! We offer alternatives like oral appliances, nasal surgery, and Inspire therapy for CPAP-intolerant patients.

What are the signs that my child needs their tonsils removed?

Frequent throat infections, difficulty breathing, loud snoring, and sleep apnea are common signs.

Why do I wake up with a dry mouth or sore throat?

This may be due to mouth breathing, allergies, or snoring. An ENT can diagnose and treat the cause.

Pediatric ENT FAQs

  • Why does my child keep getting ear infections?

Children’s ear tubes are smaller and more prone to blockages, leading to recurrent infections. Ear tube placement may help.

Can you evaluate my child for speech or hearing delays?

Yes! We provide hearing tests and speech evaluations for children.

Does my child need their adenoids removed?

If they have chronic nasal congestion, mouth breathing, or recurrent infections, an adenoidectomy may help.
